Jordan Gaffney, a senior at Grantsburg High School, set an impressive new state record at the WIAA State Track Meet on June 2-3 during his long jump performance. Jordan beat the 1970 long jump record set by Day Birkeland of 23’ 6.5” by one quarter of an inch. Jordan achieved a jump of 23’ 6.75”.

This was the oldest standing record in Division III by a significant margin of more than 30 years. Jordan sets a new record and a new aspiration for all up-and-coming track athletes throughout Wisconsin.

In addition to Jordan’s state record, several athletes also set new Grantsburg school records:

  • Aaron Burkman; pole vault (13’ 9”)

  • Sidney Gronski; 300m hurdles (50.85)

  • Megan Harmon, Ashlin Olson, Anika Lee, and Jordan Java; 4x100m relay (51.68)

  • Selah Prusinski, Ashlin Olson, Anika Lee, and Jordan Java; 4x200m relay (1:49.93)

  • Silas Prusinski, Ian Burkman, Chase Green, Jordan Gaffney; 4x200m relay (1:31.86)

Both days of the state competition gave boast-worthy results for GHS:

Friday’s Results:

  • Long Jump: Jordan Gaffney, 1st Place (23’ 6.75”; State Record)

  • 4x800m Relay: Josh Hartke, Aden Erickson, Joe Quintana, Connor Quimby; 14th place (8:29.72)

  • 4x200m Relay: Silas Prusinski, Ian Burkman, Chase Green, Jordan Gaffney; prelims: 4th (1:32.87), advancing to finals

  • 4x100m Relay: Megan Harmon, Ashlin Olson, Anika Lee, Jordan Java; 12th place (51.68)

  • 3200m Run: Connor Quimby; 14th place (10:22.21)

  • 4x400m Relay: Sidney Gronski, Selah Prusinski, Tristin Kreuser-Peterson, Noelle Doornink; 15th place (4:14.75)

  • 4x400m Relay: Aaron Burkman, Ian Burkman, Chase Green, Silas Prusinski; prelims: 10th (3:32.41), advancing to finals

Saturday’s Results:

  • 4x200m Relay: Silas Prusinski, Ian Burkman, Chase Green, Jordan Gaffney; 5th place (1:31.86) 

  • 4x100m Relay: Silas Prusinski, Ian Burkman, Aaron Burkman, Jordan Gaffney; 10th place (44.69)

  • 4x400m Relay: Aaron Burkman, Ian Burkman, Chase Green, Silas Prusinski; 9th place (3:32.83)

  • Pole Vault: Aaron Burkman; 10th place (12’6”)
