How was your PTHV experience?
Participating families are encouraged to complete the post-visit survey to help us build this initiative to fit our school community and ensure an enriching experience for staff and families.
How does it work?
PTHV is a high-impact family engagement strategy to build trusting home-to-school relationships through casual and voluntary in-home visits.
Teachers participating in the PTHV will randomly select families to schedule a visit with.
Not each student in a participating teacher’s class will receive an invitation for a visit.
Families may decline the invitation for the visit if they do not wish to participate.
Teachers will contact the families directly to schedule a visit accommodating both parties.
Participating teachers have completed professional training on how to hold these visits to maximize their impact and effectiveness.
Teachers will visit homes in pairs and hold a casual visit to discuss their child and their goals, hopes, and dreams for their child’s school year.
Following the initial visit, teachers will reflect on their experience and incorporate that feedback into the child's classroom experience.
The 5 Non-Negotiables
While the PTHV model has been adapted to schools of all sizes across the United States and Canada, the following five core practices are non-negotiable and remain consistent for every PTHV-partnering district:
Building Trust & Community
Parent-teacher home visits are not focused interventions for academic, attendance, or behavioral issues. Instead, they are meant for all students and families to foster trust. These visits are low-pressure and benefit both educators and families.
